Description This course includes information on emergency preparedness from the Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers (22 VAC 15-30-610), but is beneficial for all child care providers. The course is designed to give providers an understanding of the critical concepts and components of good emergency planning and to stimulate thinking about the emergency preparedness process.

  • Discuss licensing standards for emergency preparedness in child day centers and recommendations for emergency preparedness for other child care providers.
  • Identify the elements of emergency preparedness - prevention/mitigation, planning, response, and recovery.
  • Explain a hazard assessment.
  • List resources to be used in preparing for and responding to emergencies.
  • Describe the components of a customized emergency preparedness plan.
