| Description | Building professionals know that it is faster and cheaper to design and build according to the building code rather than tear out and do over in cases of non-compliance. This course will save money and time. The class will present the role of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC) and how it modifies the International Residential Code (IRC). Students will develop an understanding of the IRC as it applies to wood frame construction. The most commonly used tables such as joist and rafter spans, girders, and headers will be explained and students will solve sample problems to ensure understanding of the presentation. The class will cover Chapters One through Ten of the IRC and the changes adopted by the State of Virginia. Students must bring a copy of the 2006 International Residential Code, soft cover. A course workbook will be distributed at class.
